I love houseplants. I have many of them.
I love the way that they bring nature into a space.
In keeping with the theme that seems to have established itself this week, this morning I set about doing a spot of plant tidying!
I have a few plants that were looking a little straggly. Where they have maybe been left to grow unchecked for a bit too long and consequently they weren’t looking their best. Plants that have focussed on growing upwards at the expense of growing outwards and becoming more bushy. I decided it was time for a trim.
We’re not so different from plants. In fact, depending on the species, humans share between 20% and 60% of our DNA with plants.
And just like plants, if we are to grow and develop in the best way possible sometimes we need to take the pruning shears to some aspects of our lives!
If we focus too much on growing in one direction (generally up and to the right, in the case of humans) then we miss the opportunity to grow in other ways, to spend our lives doing fulfilling (from the Old English word fullfyllan, meaning to fill up or make full) things. Inevitably, from time to time we need to get rid of some things to make way for new growth.
After the trim my plants are looking a little sparse right now. But in no time at all new foliage will sprout where previously there was none and they will fill out beautifully again.
