Hump Day

Whenever you set yourself a challenge or a goal, particularly where there is a measurable element (such as time or distance) then there is invariably some stage where you reach the half way point.

You reach the hump.

The point where, having done the ‘uphill’ half of the challenge, you pass the middle and you are on the ‘downhill’ part of the journey.

And people think that if you’ve got through the first half then the second half is easy.

But the second half has traps and pitfalls that require you to be even more attentive, focussed and aware.

The second half is where you (metaphorically) take your foot off the gas and coast. You think it’s easy from now on and so you don’t give something the attention it deserves. That’s when accidents can happen.

It is a well established fact that most falls on mountains occur on the way down.

Remember that the summit is not the goal. Getting to the bottom safely is what matters.
