Are you scared that the machines are taking over? Are you afraid of what is coming?
A lot of people are. A lot of people are really frightened that artificial intelligence will decimate jobs.
Yet at the same time we sometimes seem to do everything we can to help the AI take over, often by illustrating just how stupid humans actually are.
I was at a big event recently. An event where there was age-related content. There were content bands for 5-12 year-olds, 12-16 year-olds, 16-18 year-olds and 18 and above. There were people on the door requesting IDs. The purpose of that was to be able to issue an age-appropriate wristband.
The person on my door stopped me and asked me for my ID. Now I am 57 years old. Then I was 56. Either way I was so obviously over 18. I am bald, wrinkly and sport a white beard.
I suggested that checking my ID was unnecessary, yet they insisted. They had a job to do and they were doing it.
If there is no ability to apply common sense to a situation, if there is no application of human intelligence needed then why have a human do the job in the first place? If all IDs must be scanned then why not just use a machine?
Or maybe it is the humans doing the job who are at fault by blindly following the script to such a degree as to make the whole thing a joke. They are dumbing themselves down to the point that even a machine could apply logic to the problem and eliminate SOME of this stupidity:
IF Apparent_Age_of_Entrant >=12 OR <=30;
Check_Age
ELSE:
Let_Them_In_FFS
There really is no need to do something where the outcome is totally obvious. Apply some common sense.
Otherwise we are playing right into the hands of the AI and gifting it our jobs!
